El seleccionado argentino masculino de hockey sobre césped, Los Leones, iniciará en la madrugada del sábado en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio la defensa del título alcanzado en Río de Janeiro 2016.
Cinco años después de aquella proeza obtenida en el complejo militar de Deodoro, el combinado albiceleste, con algunos ‘sobrevivientes’ de aquel elenco que abrazó la gloria, se medirá con su par de España, desde las 00.15 del sábado en la Argentina.
El encuentro corresponderá a la zona A, que también integran los representativos de Australia, Nueva Zelanda, Japón e India.
El grupo B, en tanto, estará integrado por Bélgica, Países Bajos, Alemania, Gran Bretaña, Canadá y Sudáfrica.
Todos los encuentros tendrán por escenario al complejo Oi Hockey Stadium de Tokio. En este caso, argentinos y españoles se enfrentarán en el campo Sur.
Los Leones, séptimos en el ranking mundial de la FIH (Federación Internacional), arrancarán su actuación ante un elenco español, ubicado en el noveno lugar en el escalafón.
El equipo que dirige el DT Mariano Ronconi tiene en sus filas a la base del plantel que se consagró campeón en Río de Janeiro como Juan Manuel Vivaldi, Pedro Ibarra, Matías Rey, Lucas Vila, Juan Martín López e Ignacio Ortiz; entre otros.
Precisamente, el capitán Ibarra, con 310 encuentros oficiales disputados con el seleccionado argentino, dijo: “Se hizo desear bastante, fue difícil porque teníamos la incertidumbre todos los días de si se hacían o no los Juegos Olímpicos”
“Entrenar con los Leones es muy exigente y creo que un año de más de lo que uno tenía en la cabeza es un montón. Por suerte ya pasó, creo que llegamos bien, entrenamos muchísimo e hicimos pretemporadas durante este año», agregó en declaraciones que reprodujo la Confederación Argentina (CAH).
